Ottawa, Ontario
Artist and biologist based in Ottawa, Ontario. Vanessa’s passion for creating bird-friendly murals led her to research bird-window collisions during her Master’s degree.
Her work combines science and art to engage communities, educate the public, and promote creative solutions for safer spaces for birds.
Faraaz Abdool
Trinidad & Tobago
Wildlife photographer, author, speaker, birding guide, ecotourism consultant, and environmental advocate.
Author of Casual Birding in Trinidad & Tobago. Through his photography, writing, and public speaking, Faraaz helps build appreciation for birds while promoting habitat protection.
Faraaz supports Feather Friendly's work by raising awareness and connecting solutions with local groups and architects.
Ann Fu
Pacific Northwest
Artist, former architect, and lifelong wildlife enthusiast based in Western Canada.
Ann's work is inspired by nature and features wildlife through murals, printmaking, calligraphy, and digital illustration. She has collaborated with civic mural festivals.
As an active birder, Ann helps promote bird-safe design by connecting creativity, community engagement, and bird protection.
Jeffrey Ortega
Costa Rica
Jeffrey Ortega is a Bachelor’s degree student in Natural Resources Management at the Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED) in Costa Rica. He is currently conducting his final thesis research on bird-window collisions in the city of San José, focusing on understanding the relationship between urban landscapes and this significant threat to birds.
Jeffery is also the founder of Josefina, a citizen science bird-window collision network in Costa Rica since September, 2025...
Anouk Hoedeman
Netherlands
Bird collision prevention consultant with extensive experience in urban conservation policy and bird-safe design.
Co-founder of Safe Wings Ottawa, where she helped advance bird-safe design standards adopted by the Government of Canada.
Now based in the Netherlands, Anouk continues this work through Birdbrain Consulting, supporting outreach to planning authorities.
